“All days are not equal,” opens an insightful new book examining the defining moments that shaped modern Canada, written by Aaron Hughes.

“Certain days are singularly important to the formation and prospects of a nation and their true significance only becomes apparent in hindsight.”

Hughes begins by highlighting then-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's October 13, 1970 statement – “Look at me” as a crystallizing moment. Three days later, he implemented the War Measures Act, which reduced civil liberties across the country. And on a completely different and less ominous note, April 17, 1972 was a day that swelled Canadians' sense of identity as a nation with: "Paul Henderson scored his famous goal in the final seconds of the series Russia-Canada hockey summits, a goal that united the country.

Stuart McNish invited Aaron Hughes, author of "10 Days That Shaped Modern Canada," to join him for an important conversation about why we need to understand what we have become, as a country, and the link between today and that time.
