The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone was first published in October 1921 in The Strand Magazine. This is one of 12 stories in the collection "The Sherlock Holmes Collection", first published in 1927. It is the last dozen Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle .

The action takes place at 221B Baker Street and features Sherlock Holmes, his page Billy, as well as Dr Watson, a master criminal named Count Negretto Sylvius and a boxer. There is also a telegram sent to the intriguingly named Detective Youghal (pronounced Yawl) of Scotland Yard.

It is one of two Sherlock Holmes stories written in the third person. (Just like The War Service by Sherlock Holmes). This is probably because The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone was adapted from a play, which explains why the story is limited to a single play.

It is read by Greg Wagland for Magpie Audio.
