Are you going to Europe and you don't know what to bring? Here are a few things my American travel companions might want to avoid bringing with them if they travel to Europe.
1. Baseball caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served wearing a more traditional hat. You'll occasionally see a NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the novelty hat you've always wanted instead?
2. Sportswear: Europeans tend to wear sportswear for playing sports and not for walking around town. There is a trend toward wearing more activewear in Europe, but it's not to the same extent as in the United States.
3. Khakis: The ubiquitous choice of men's pants in the United States isn't something you'll see too often in Europe. Opt for colorful pants or jeans. If you want khaki pants, wear chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you'll see are a slimmer or "skinny" cut than in the United States.
4. Oversized American College Sweatshirts.
5. Sneakers or high heels: American sneakers and white socks are not as popular in Europe as in the United States. You might be better off opting for Urban Street shoes like Vans. Additionally, women should be careful with high heels, because with all the cobblestones it is easy to hurt your ankles.
