Two years ago, a company used one of our most famous photos on the cover of an iPhone case without our permission. This was misleading in several respects; the product seemed to advertise that it could produce our image results (it didn't) and some people thought we were endorsing the product. The product was in some of Australia and New Zealand's biggest stores, including Target, and retailed for around AUD$70.
We tried to reach out and handle the situation nicely without hiring lawyers, but the people who stole our photo immediately hired a lawyer and tried to ignore us.
So we took them to court. It was not easy ! We had to hire lawyers in Australia, and finding a lawyer was REALLY HARD. The defendants tried to get out of it without paying a reasonable sum… but it ultimately cost them dearly.
