A Complete Timeline of the Neolithic Period: The Documentary on the First Humans of the New Stone Age
The Neolithic began around twelve thousand years ago and is actually marked by the first evidence of agriculture in the fertile crescent of western Asia. These early farms grew a small range of crops, such as spelt, wheat, einkorn and millet, and always kept dogs in their settlements to help them hunt meat. It was not until 8,000 BC that modern domestic animals such as pigs, goats and sheep were introduced into human settlements. The end of the Neolithic depends on where you are.

These West Asian cultures were the first to emerge from the Neolithic with the advent of metallurgy, as they moved toward the Bronze Age. Other regions of the world took longer to progress, with the cultures of Africa first advancing around 3,150 BC and those of Europe around 2,000 BC. So today we are going to look at these crops in more detail. How did Neolithic humans in Europe, Asia and Africa live? How did they progress, learn, and thrive in the early historic landscapes they would call home? Join us to answer these questions and more as we explore the Neolithic: the mysterious and ancient “new stone age.”
