This is a much too brief history of Mercury
Established as a Ford military brand between Ford and Lincoln, and intended to compete with Buick and Oldsmobile, Mercury faced divisional reshuffling, platform sharing, and a general lack of focus.
While creating attractive cars, I believe that when they were canceled the automotive world collectively shrugged their shoulders.
