Today I'm talking about a book that focuses on Kenya's independence during the Emergency period of the 1950s. Thiong'o writes about Mugo and his friends as they face the promise of independence as well as personal dilemmas. I love how Thiong'o paints a beautiful picture of what the revolution meant for peasants and how Kenyans came to embrace Christian imagery in their struggle for freedom.
