Alice Roberts – Ancestors: a history of Britain through burials
Professor Alice Roberts, broadcaster, author and biological anthropologist from the University of Birmingham, UK, will speak about Ancestors: A History of Britain Through Burials. She will explore how funerary archeology has shed light on prehistoric societies in the UK and how genetics is revolutionizing what we know about the deep past. Professor Roberts has presented over 100 television programs and was awarded the Royal Society's inaugural David Attenborough Prize for Public Engagement in 2020.

After studying and practicing medicine, Professor Roberts later became a university lecturer, teaching clinical anatomy and undertaking research in biological anthropology. She is particularly interested in the intersection between biology, archeology and history, the impact of ancient genomics in archaeology, and the interaction between humans and the environment through time. She is passionate about public engagement in academic research and teaching and has been Professor of Public Engagement in Science at the University of Birmingham since 2012.
