William "Hank" Hankinson served as a pilot in HHT/1/9 and B/1/9, 1st Cavalry Division, participating in numerous combat operations in Vietnam between 1969 and 1970. Most notably, Hankinson spent nine months as a reconnaissance pilot and survived. being shot five times.
