We chat with author and musician John Shirley about his varied work, from his first bands and recordings in the 1980s to his latest books.

/"John Shirley is the author of dozens of novels, including Demons, Crawlers, Wetbones, Cellars, A Sorcerer in Atlantis, the cyberpunk trilogy A Song Called Youth City Come A-Walkin', Bioshock: Rapture and The Other End. His Story collections include Black Butterflies: A Flock on the Dark Side, which won the Bram Stoker Prize. His most recent novels are Blackstone Books' Stormland and Pinnacle's Axle Bust Creek… His first poetry collection, The Voice of the. Burning House, recently released by Jackanapes Press (rhyming poetry in the style of Weird Poetry), has just been reissued, reprinted and with four new stories added. .

He is a co-writer of The Crow and has written for Deep Space Nine and other shows. He writes lyrics for the Blue Oyster Cult and others. He also wrote animation scripts.

Other projects include his recordings with progressive rock composer Jerry King, for example Spaceship Landing in a Cemetery and Escape from Gravity./"
