He is a former special assistant to the president and senior director of the National Security Council for Arms Control and Nonproliferation. He served as special advisor to Vice President Joe Biden from 2009 to 2012 at the White House. He has conducted field missions in North Korea, Iran, Russia and China and has more than 35 years of experience in nuclear weapons, deterrence, arms control and national security. He is co-author of Deadly Arsenals: Tracking Weapons of Mass Destruction.
