Archaeologists discover 97 ancient remains buried beneath Roman villa while digging for Britain
When a high-status Roman villa called Yewden was discovered in southern England, it was accompanied by a sinister discovery. 97 children's skeletons were discovered, all mysteriously aged around 40 weeks, and probably buried in one hasty move. It raises many questions about systematic infanticide in Roman times. The exhibition also uncovers evidence of Roman expansion in Kent and trade with the Romans in Dorset, as well as a significant hoard of coins found in Somerset.
