Argonnerwald, NE France: The US 77th Infantry Division in action during World War I

This battalion was made up of six companies from the 308th Infantry Regiment of the 77th and one from the 307th. Surrounded by the German army and without food, water, ammunition and medical equipment, only two hundred men survived after five days of siege.
The "Lost Battalion" of World War I consisted of six companies from the 308th Infantry Regiment of the 77th and one from the 307th Infantry Regiment.
