James Brooks asked Art Garfunkel to perform an Eric Idle song called "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" (you may remember the Monty Python tune) for his new film TriStar AS GOOD AS IT GETS, with Jack Nicholson and Helen. Hunting. According to Art, he was asked to give the song sung in the final credits "a musical value and to sing it seriously. It is rich in orchestration." Hans Zimmer, who composed the original music for the film, also produced the Art issue. Backed by a male choir, the song is both sophisticated and humorous. The film opened on Christmas Day and proved to be a major success.
