Ashley Audrain: The Push – Interview with the author
We're kicking off 2021 by chatting with Ashley Audrain, the author of THE PUSH, a book that's generating much-deserved buzz. In it, Blythe gave birth to her daughter, Violet, and although she dreamed of a loving mother-daughter relationship, she creates no bond with Violet. Something is wrong. Her husband, Fox, doesn't see this, causing her to question her mothering skills. Her mother and grandmother both struggle with mental instability, so she has no great family role models. Then comes her second child, Sam, and he's an easy child. Motherhood with him is bliss, until something happens that turns the family upside down. Carol and Ashley talk about the stereotypical motherly relationship that is praised and often overrated. They also examine the art of writing THE PUSH. It is written in the second person, which puts readers inside Blythe's head. Ashley also gives listeners a glimpse into the rest of her writing.
