Jonathan Krause is a man with a plan. He's going to quit his advertising job and, when he runs out of money, he's going to die. He has just one last mission left: a trip to Japan. It's a trip he was supposed to take with his girlfriend, Sara. It’s a journey inspired by his regrets. And it is a trip to pay homage to the Japanese, the inventors of the suicide technique he chose.
In preparation for his latest trip, Jonathan enrolls in a Japanese class where he meets Riko, who has her own plans to visit her homeland, for very different reasons. Their unexpected and unusual friendship takes them together to Japan, where they each struggle to make peace with their pasts and accept that happiness, loneliness, and sorrow come and go, just like cherry blossoms.
Haunted by a lost love, Jonathan must decide whether he can accept the fleeting nature of life or choose the certainty of death.
