BBC News Val McDermids' Wire in the Blood series continues
Crime writer and former tabloid journalist Val McDermid has written 30 books, most recently one for children.
But it is her novels featuring the characters Tony Hill and Carol Jordan, for which she is best known, having been adapted for the ITV series Wire in the Blood.
Cross and Burn is the final and eighth book in the series.
McDermid tells the BBC's Nick Higham how she often has to "regroup" between her Wire in the Blood novels by writing other stories.
