Bloodletting at Burnside Bridge History Traveler Episode 253
As the fighting at the Battle of Antietam moved south from places like Cornfield and The Bloody Lane, the Union 9th Corps under General Ambrose Burnside was sent to attack the right flank of the Army of Northern Virginia by Robert E. Lee. But standing in their way was a small group of Georgians guarding a bridge that would later be called Burnside Bridge.
