Book Lust with Nancy Pearl: Marie-Hélène Bertino’s “Beautyland” examines what it means to be human
/"Beautyland/" by Marie-Hélène Bertino is based on the author's short story about "an anonymous alien faxing notes about human beings to those she believes to be her superiors./" Bertino based the structure of the story about the lifespan of a star and lent much of its own history to the /"Life on Earth/" and the /"magical vocation" of its protagonist. She tells host Nancy Pearl that she herself has a folder on her computer called "Notes on Human Beings" where she collects confusing information. and charming particularities of our genre which are reminiscent of the character's observations. In fact, that brief helped her write this novel, which, at its core, is an examination of "what it means to be a human on Earth."
