In its entirety, the Book of Enoch is composed of five books – The Book of Watchers, the Book of Parables, the Astronomical Book, Dream Visions and the Epistles of Enoch – containing around one hundred chapters. These chapters tell the story of the 7th patriarch of the book of Genesis – Enoch, the father of Methuselah and grandfather of Noah, the same Noah in the biblical story of Noah's ark. Yet this was not the biblical story of Noah's ark. In fact, the Book of Enoch provides an entirely different account of the events leading up to the Great Flood of Noah's day, that is, a completely different doctrinal story. It tells the story of the Watchers, explained in biblical terms as fallen angels, sent to earth to watch over humans at an ancient and undefined time. Unfortunately, far from simply observing humans, these Watchers became infatuated with human women and quickly began engaging in depraved sexual acts with them. The Book of Enoch tells of the children born from this crossbreeding between the Watchers and humans, called the Nephilim. These Nephilim were as described: /"giants and savages who endangered and plundered humanity,/" or, in other words, /"supernatural, man-eating giants./" Angered by this that the Watchers had done, those described as gods chained them. in an underground prison deep in the earth. Enoch became the intermediary between the gods and the imprisoned watchers.
