GRAMMY-nominated singer Catherine Russell, when asked to describe her new album, Send For Me, replied: “I like swinging romance. » Scheduled for release on April 1, 2022 via Dot Time Records, Send For Me presents a dozen newly recorded tracks on his eighth album as a leader, meeting a simple and demanding standard. “Songs that inspire me or touch me in some way. When I find a song I love, it haunts me until I learn it. Its mission is to find songs that you may not have heard but are worth your attention.

Russell’s deep connection to her chosen material is part of a calling. The daughter of pioneering and legendary musicians, pianist/conductor/composer/arranger Luis Russell and bassist/guitarist/vocalist Carline Ray, Catherine Russell was born into jazz royalty. Selecting material for his new album from artists like Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Luis Russell, Betty Carter, Kay Starr, Joe Liggins, Earl King, Jack Teagarden, Helen Humes, Frank Sinatra, Dakota Staton, Henry Red Allen and Louis Armstrong, the singer, swims in familiar waters. She sings a language that comes naturally, fostering a deep heritage.

Send For Me follows Russell's 2019 album Alone Together, which received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album and landed on JazzWeek's year-end radio chart as an album #1 most played. “I like to invite people,” she says of her new album, which also represents her philosophy of live performance. The album is an invitation to travel that invites the public to travel.

“At The Swing Cats Ball” has a strong family connection. Russell recalls: “My mother gave me a sheet of music a long time ago and said, 'Your father co-wrote this song and Louis Jordan covered it. » The song was among Louis Jordan's first recordings. Luis Russell never recorded his song, although he performed it in concerts. “We found a live version performed by my father's orchestra on a radio show and adapted his arrangement. I like the image of people going to a swing dance.
