Chaco Culture National Historical Park in northwest New Mexico may be remote and involve a long dirt road adventure, but it's simply one of the finest examples of Puebloan architecture that can be found. Many large homes remain in fantastic condition where one can experience something not often offered: the ability to walk around the rooms!
Visitors can find numerous hiking trails between, around and above the grand houses to provide dazzling views.
The Puebloans who resided in Chaco Canyon spent generations building and expanding the resorts. Much of this construction took place between 850 and 1250 AD. Although much of the use of these large houses is not fully understood, they were thought to be for the ceremonies, commerce, and other cultural activities of the general Four Corners area.
Visitors would be amazed to learn about the culture's knowledge of time and space and how it gave them insight into the region's agriculture and agriculture. Walls aligned to true north as well as east and west based on the rising and setting sun. These people were truly masters at this.
