Inspector Duff works with Scotland Yard. He is called to investigate a mysterious murder at a famous local London hotel. An old deaf man, on a pleasure trip from America with his daughter and granddaughter, was murdered during the night. At first, the investigation seemed to point to Doctor Lofton, the leader of the tourist group, as the culprit. Much to the dismay of the other travelers in the group, they are all subjected to questioning and investigation by Inspector Duff. A few seem good for the murder: an infamous Chicago gangster, an extremely nervous man, a few people who happened to be in the wrong place at the time of the murder. Without evidence, Duff is unable to stop the band from continuing their tour. He finds himself wishing for help from his old friend, Charlie Chan, who now resides in Hawaii. The plot thickens when one of the suspects is found dead at another stage of the journey. Duff finds himself traveling to investigate a new murder, quickly followed by another murder. Duff plans to meet up with the group again when they arrive in Hawaii – hoping to get help from Charlie Chan as well. When they arrive in Hawaii, Charlie Chan doesn't just help them; he finds himself resuming the investigation. Earl Derr Biggers (1884-1933) was an American author, best known for his detective novels about the Chinese-American detective Charlie Chan. Several of his works have been adapted for cinema during his career. Despite fearing that he would never be able to break out of the Charlie Chan mold, Biggers continued to write the mysteries due to their popularity and his attachment to the character. Several of his works have been adapted for cinema during his career. Despite fearing that he would never be able to break out of the Charlie Chan mold, Biggers continued to write the mysteries due to their popularity and his attachment to the character.
