The hero of the Choctaws, and undoubtedly one of the greatest Native American leaders, was “A Pushmatahubi, commonly known as Chief Pushmataha. Some say his full name means: "His arm and all the weapons in his hands are fatal to his enemies." »
He is said to have been born in 1764, in what is now the state of Mississippi. Very little is known about his ancestors, or at least about his early life, in public writings. His parents. are supposed to have been killed by the Creeks, which partly explains Chief Pushmataha's supposed hatred… for this tribe.
When asked about his ancestry, he usually responded:
“I’m a Choctaw.”
