Colum McCann (born 1965) is an Irish-born literary fiction writer, whose novels include This Side of Brightness, Dancer and Zoli. McCann teaches creative writing at Hunter College, part of the City University of New York. This Side of Brightness and Dancer are international bestsellers. Her most recent book, Zoli, has been reviewed by Harper's Weekly, People Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Oprah Magazine, New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, LA Times, among others. His fiction has been published in 26 languages. He has written for numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, GQ, The Times, The Irish Times and La Repubblica.
In 2003, McCann was named one of Esquire magazine's "best and brightest." He also received the Pushcart Prize, the Rooney Prize, the Irish Novel of the Year Award and the Princess Grace Memorial Literary Prize from the Monaco Irish Fund in 2002. He was recently inducted into the Hennessy Hall of Fame. His story / "Everything in this Country Must" was adapted into a short film directed by Gary McKendry. He was nominated for an Oscar in 2005.
