Decoding Cadfael

In this one-off special for ITV3, we reveal the mysteries behind 'Cadfael', the early 1990s ITV series adapted from the novels by author Ellis Peters.

Starring Sir Derek Jacobi, Cadfael was a smash hit for ITV, centering on the complex world of a retired crusader, now a monk and herbalist in charge of the gardens at Shrewsbury Abbey. Brother Cadfael (Jacobi) is called upon to solve murders and medieval mysteries in and around dark and dangerous 12th-century Shrewsbury, in the borderland where England meets Wales.
The program traces the journey from the books to the radio plays and the film adaptation, which brought the medieval magic of Ellis Peters to life.
