Born into a Bengali “probashi” family based mainly in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, and the daughter of a defense officer, Smita Mukerji immersed herself from a very young age in the cultures and flavors of the different regions of the 'India. This imbued him with a sense of unity and a deep attachment and respect for all the constituent parts of India, especially its history. She went on to study history at university, and although she moved on to other career fields, history remained her eternal love.
