In his book Capitalist Realism, Mark Fisher examines the symptoms of our current cultural malaise. After 1989, capitalism successfully presented itself as the only realistic political-economic system. We live in a world in which we are repeatedly told that there is no alternative. Using examples from politics, film, fiction, labor, and education, he argues that capitalist realism colors all areas of contemporary experience, while even offering the prospect of 'an antidote.
