DROBAK SOUND (The night the dark ships came)
On April 7, 1940, Nazi Germany launched a sneaky and treacherous attack on Norway; without a declaration of war, dozens of German warships descended on the Norwegian coast. Only in Drobak Sound were they defeated – the heavy cruiser Blucher led a flotilla to the Oslofjord, and in Drobak Sound encountered the ancient fortress of Oscarsborg – manned by old and young boys (most of the soldiers were enlisted 7 days before the battle), and armed with weapons almost half a century old and which had never been fired in anger, the Norwegians sank the Blucher and put the other ships, thus saving Oslo from falling at the first blow – the national treasure, the Storting and the government escaped from Nazi capture, the country was able to continue fighting, in the mountains and in exile, until the final victory.
