Since their rise in popularity in the 1970s, role-playing games have had a huge influence not only on gamers, but on everything from Hollywood to video game development. Today, in a world dominated by video games and social media, there remains a persistent interest in gathering around a table and playing face to face. Beyond cards and board games, role-playing games enable not only interaction and play, but also storytelling creativity, world-building, and engagement with ideas. The adaptability of D&D and other tabletop role-playing games can satisfy players in ways that our digital world cannot, with unique gameplay mechanics and engagement and unlimited use of the imagination. As tabletop role-playing games experience a cultural resurgence, more and more people are discovering the freedom and interactivity that makes them unique.
