In this month's episode, we learn that the human brain differentiates musical pitch in a way that macaque monkeys do not. In fact, speech and music have shaped the auditory circuits of the human brain. Researchers are studying these circuits with an eye toward developing treatments for neurological disorders. Kathryn Loydall of The Scientist's Creative Services team spoke with Bevil Conway, a researcher in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to find out more.
