Escape (Radio) 1954 (ep228) The Heart of Kali (FINAL SHOW)
Escape brings together everything that was good about the radio series of yesteryear. The title itself almost sums up the very essence of radio fiction. Each of the episodes was a microdrama carefully planned to capture the listeners' attention for thirty minutes. Over two hundred episodes have been made and almost all of them are as good today as they were over half a century ago. During the first years the series was on the air, the announcement at the start of the show varied almost every week, but by the 1950s it had become the now famous:
Tired of the daily grind? Have you ever dreamed of a life of romantic adventure? Want to escape ? We offer you… ESCAPE!
In radio's golden era of the 1930s and 1950s, the most popular radio series had a set broadcast time each week. Sometimes there may be a change in the schedule, but overall a consistent time slot has helped build a large audience, just like the goal of major networks.

An exception to this rule was the adventure-drama anthology series called Escape, whose time slot was shifted eighteen times during its seven-year run, from 1947 to 1954. To make matters even worse, she had a habit of coming and going and sometimes completely disappearing from schedules at short notice for weeks only to resurface weeks later in a completely different time slot.

The rather blatant disregard that CBS gave to the idea of having a regular time slot for Escape might make you think that it was just a run-of-the-mill series that was nothing more than light filler for times when the regular show was not broadcast. , like during the quiet summer months. In my opinion, and that of many old radio aficionados, this couldn't be further from the truth. Escape is probably the best adventure anthology ever released.

This may give the wrong impression because Escape was much more than a swaggering adventure yarn. It was a brilliantly scripted and superbly produced series that introduced listeners to adaptations of classic works by famous writers as well as brand new works by unknown talents. Many stories were later reused by higher profile shows such as Suspense, but overall the Escape versions were of equal quality and sometimes more dramatically focused and atmospheric.

When Radio Life wrote: “These stories all have several times the reality that most radio writing conveys”
