Final Fantasy 7 is not only one of my favorite video games of all time… but one of my favorite stories in any medium.
I know how dear this game is to millions of people around the world, so I did my best to expand it as much as possible. Even though it is a satire, I still wanted to keep the essence of the game, the world and the characters intact.
Initially, I wanted to make a short 2-5 minute video, but 2 months and thousands of images later… here we are. I wasn't able to fit in every character or scene due to time and mental health constraints, but I tried to include story beats and things that were most memorable to me .
I started the project with Midjourney v4 which really fit the 80s dark fantasy aesthetic, but it took a long time to get the images I wanted due to the randomness and weirdness of the images.
At the end of disc 1 I upgraded to Midjourney v5 and moved away from the Dark Fantasy aesthetic and just decided to create images that I thought were cool. I was still using Dark Fantasy in the prompt, just like v4, and sometimes it gave me that aesthetic, but not quite like v4 would. I didn't manage to fully understand the prompts for Dark Fantasy in v5, but it was much faster to generate the images because the output was much less random and the images were nowhere near as wobbly.
