Gabrielle Crowe on recovering indigenous culture in Southern California
Sometimes you meet someone and you just know your energies align!

I met Gabrielle Crowe while doing a river cleanup here on the Tongva Lands. This is the land currently called Los Angeles which has been and still is the home of the Tongva people for thousands of years.
Gabrielle is Vice Chair of the Gabrielino-Shoshone Tribal Council of Southern California and her life's work is to change the mindset of Southern Californians to become warriors of the Earth and allies of indigenous peoples, the first stewards of this earth.
She works with children and adults to raise awareness of the destruction of colonialism on the land and its people. Most people who live here today don't know that until the 1970s, it was illegal for the people of Gabrielle to practice their culture, including their language, medicine, religion, and connection to the Earth.
Traditions were lost and stolen during 200 years of colonialism in what is now California.
Gabrielle is one of many people striving to reclaim their culture, a culture of reciprocity with the land. It's a challenge in a place where consumerism is outdated, but Gabrielle is there to do the job…

Gabrielle recommends being an ally by recognizing the land you live on or visit. The Native Land website is a resource that can help you do just that. “Native Land Digital strives to create and foster conversations about the history of colonialism, Indigenous ways of knowing, and settler-Indigenous relationships, through educational resources such as our map and recognition guide of the territory. We strive to move beyond old ways of talking about Indigenous people and develop a platform where Indigenous communities can represent themselves and their history on their own terms. In doing so, Native Land Digital creates spaces where non-Native people can be invited and challenged to learn about the lands they inhabit, the history of those lands, and how to actively participate in a better future together. /"

Thank you Gabrielle for being a beacon for the Earth and humanity!
You have positively influenced me to recognize that I and we are ALL in #NativeLand.
“The Gabrieleno San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians (“Gabrieleno Tongva/”) is the historically traditional tribe of Los Angeles County. The Gabrieleno Tongva occupied the entire Los Angeles basin and the islands of Santa Catalina, San Nicholas, San Clemente and Santa Barbara, and from the mountains to the sea. The existence of these peoples on these ancestral lands was uninterrupted long before the first contact between the Tongva and Europeans.
