In the latest episode, Bettany travels to China in the footsteps of Confucius, a great sage of Chinese history whose ideas have fundamentally shaped his native country for approximately 2,500 years.

Historical documentary presented by Bettany Hughes, released by the BBC in 2015 – English narration Confucius Bettany Hughes' series exploring the lives and teachings of influential ancient philosophers concludes with a profile of Confucius, considered the first Chinese thinker to adopt a systematic philosophical approach to issues of social, political, and ethical significance. Born during the chaotic Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history, Confucius believed that harmony could be promoted and achieved through the example of wise leaders. He was also an innovative teacher and tried to instill his principles of moral excellence among China's elite, but he died without seeing his vision for his nation realized. However, its philosophies would eventually form the foundation of Chinese culture, with many of its traditional principles surviving to this day.
