Google My Maps – The Belly of Paris by Emile Zola
I first played with My Maps while reading Le Ventre de Paris by Émile Zola, published in 1873.

Each layer of the map represents a chapter of the book, six in total. Streets/locations are listed on the left side in order of appearance. However, it seems that once a street/place is saved on one layer, it cannot be saved on another layer.
Google Earth would be amazing if satellite images were available for Paris in the mid-1800s.
