Christopher Kerr, MD, PhD, is chief medical officer and CEO of Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo. Along with direct patient care, Dr. Kerr focuses on the areas of leadership and patient advocacy. He oversaw the integration and expansion of palliative care in hospitals and developed an extensive home-based program for adults and children and published innovative program models designed to better align patient and family services with the complexity of needs inherent to advanced care. disease.
Dr. Kerr's research experience has evolved from laboratory science to the human experience of illness as observed at the bedside, particularly the dreams and visions of patients at the end of life. Although medically ignored, these near-universal experiences often provide comfort and meaning, as well as insight into the life led and anticipated death. To date, the Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo research team has published several studies on this topic and documented more than 1,500 end-of-life events, many of which are recorded on video.
