Wiki: Historiography is essentially the history of history or, more precisely, the history of the writing of history. How have historians from different times and places interpreted the causes and character of the Revolution differently? Historiography is the lifeblood of academic historians; however, the general reader is often not familiar with it. Perhaps no other subject in American history has been the subject of as many different interpretations as the American Revolution. The following is a summary of the different ways in which historians have interpreted the causes and character of the Revolution. This is a debate as old as the Republic itself.
