If they were to come for us
If they were to come for us
This program aims to expand on the themes presented in our exhibition, Small and Mighty Acts Altar for Black Lives. This program was made possible through financial support from the North Carolina Humanities Council.

This talk will examine the poem “If They Were to Come for Us” from a larger collection of poetry by Fatimah Asghar, titled If They Were to Come for Us. We will explore themes of who "our people" are, the power of community, the importance of knowing our history, loyalty, love and the bonds that bind us. As well as making connections to recent themes and events happening in the United States and around the world.

About the speaker:
Brittany Twitty is from a small town called Columbus, North Carolina, just down the mountain from Asheville. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at Appalachian State. She plans to pursue a career in community education around mental health and social justice, particularly within communities of color.
