Scenario:
In the winter of 1946, in Leningrad, a group of German prisoners of war are sent to a women's transit camp by the cruel Russian commander Pavlov. Upon arrival, Russian female soldiers show their hostility toward the enemies who killed their husbands, families, and friends; only Dr. Natalia and the cook treat the prisoners with dignity. Natalia has a deal with Commander Pavlov to keep her former lover, who was wounded in the head during the war and is slow, in the camp instead of sending him to an institution in Siberia. Pavlov tasks Natalia with revealing the members of the SS infiltrated in the group of prisoners. Natalia and prisoner Max feel a great attraction to each other while prisoner Klaus tries to convince Max to denounce some prisoners to satisfy the Russian. Natalia convinces businessman Yakov to organize an orchestra with the prisoners; they are invited to perform at a ball where the lone women who survived the war dance with the Germans. After the ball, Natalia convinces Officer Elena to let the prisoners spend the night with the women. Natalia has a one-night stand with Max and while he sneaks back into the neighborhoods, he is attacked by Klaus and saved by Natalia who discovers who Klaus really is. Written by Claudio Carvalho

Warning: spoilers
/"Great movie. Amazing performance by Thomas Kretschmann (as always). It's hard to see this gorgeous man dressed in drag and looks like hell in half the movie. The love scene of him with the nurse is so touching. The whole movie is a scary and depressing experience until around the last 30 minutes of the movie. The only part that leaves me perplexed is that after the "party/" thrown by the kind hearted Jew, why these Russian women were. were they so fascinated by German prisoners of war? Just after a dance or two? The pain and suffering of war thrown out the window? Or was it because so many Russian men were killed that these women had it all? simply hungry for men? /"The pianist/
