Beaver fur top hats were once the fashion choice of gentlemen in the 1800s. Beaver trapping and the fur trade fueled westward expansion and developed the trails later used by emigrants of the Oregon California Trail through Wyoming.

Travel to Pinedale, WY and hear Clint Gilchrist, Executive Director of the Museum of the Mountain Man, tell us about this period of history and take us on a tour of the museum to see artifacts, including Jim Bridger's rifle that was given to him by Louis Vasquez.

Discover your trail. The Oregon-California Trails Association is the leading keeper and promoter of the inspiring story of the 19th-century westward migration, unique in world history. Our mission is to protect the legacy of historic emigrant trails by promoting research, education, preservation activities, and public awareness of the trails, and to work with others to further these causes.
