Josephine Ensign: Fighting Homelessness: Stories Matter
Josephine Ensign: Fighting Homelessness: Stories Matter
At the start of the homeless epidemic in the 1980s, Josephine Ensign was a young, white, Southern, Christian wife, mother, and nurse who ran a medical clinic for the homeless in the heart of the South. Through her work and intense relationships with patients and colleagues, her worldview was shattered after she lost her job, family, and home, and she herself became homeless. Ensign joins us decades later to tell her story through her book Catching Homelessness: A Nurse's Story of Falling Through the Safety Net. With intense empathy and a deep human perspective, she sheds light on how her experience of homelessness pieced together her life with an altered view of homelessness and the healthcare system. Ensign offers an insightful look at our nation's homeless sector, nursing, and health care safety net. Join Ensign as she reflects on how her understanding of homelessness has changed her work, her perspective, and her life experiences – and changed her.

Pirate TV defies the media blockade, bringing you independent voices, news and programs not available on the corporate sponsorship ship. These posts are intended for YouTube and are generally longer than the broadcast versions. You will notice that I do not monetize my videos. I'm irritated by the constant interruptions, as I'm sure you are, and would like to have a say in sponsorship.
