Rishi Sunak has intervened in the row between the Equalities Minister and the actor, suggesting the Doctor Who star is “the problem”.
Tennant suggested at an awards ceremony that he wanted a world in which the Equalities Minister “no longer exists” and she should “shut up”.
The Prime Minister said: “Freedom of expression is the most powerful element of our democracy.
“If you’re asking women to shut up and wishing they didn’t exist, you’re the problem.”
Tennant won an award for being a “celebrity ally” at the British LGBT Awards last week and used his speech to target the Equalities Minister.
