I used to think so, but now I'm not so sure. Emerson and I met freshman year of high school and have remained very close ever since. I was pretty good at keeping her locked in with the girls. I don't think about having sex with any part of my brain. Which is no easy task because, let's face it, unless we're related, you're potentially spank bank material. Lucky for me, Southern University has a glut of Red Devils hockey groupies, which means there are always plenty of bunnies to choose from. I'm just careful that they don't look anything like Em.
So, everything should be fine in the neighborhood, right?
Fake. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but lately I can't seem to cope. Unless an image of Em comes to mind. Then all systems work. It's a complicated situation. There is one that Emerson is completely unaware of. And that’s exactly how it should stay. What I learned is that friendship is much harder to find than romantic relationships.
Ready for a complication? It turns out Em is a virgin. And she wants me to be the one to, well… take care of business. You better believe I dismissed the idea before it could gain any traction in my brain. Maybe Em doesn't realize it, but staying friends after sleeping with someone happens about as often as spotting a tie-dye unicorn sprinkling craps. If it wasn't rare, everyone would do it, right? Exactly.
As far as I'm concerned, Emerson has been a virgin for so long, she may well wait to do the deed until we separate next year.
Unfortunately, my best friend has other ideas.
Which means I'm screwed.
And not in a good way.
