Keith Haring TuttoMondo Pisa 1989 interview by Clare Ann Matz
In June 1989, Keith Haring created a 180 square meter mural on the back wall of the Church of Saint Antonio Abate in Pisa. It is one of the few outdoor public works created by Haring for permanent exhibition.
It is also one of the last public murals created before his death from AIDS-related complications in 1990.
This project was made possible thanks to the insight and passion for art of Piergiorgio Castellani who invited Keith to Pisa and organized the necessary permits for the miracle to take place.
I was working at VideoMusic at the time and went to Pisa to interview Keith while he and his team of Italian friends finished the artwork. Here is an excerpt from this interview.
