Lakes or “seas” formed in a few hours

Incredibly, 3,000 square miles of land sank or subsided as a result of the massive shocks, in some places up to 10 feet above sea level. Huge quantities of water poured from the Mississippi River, forming a lake, or “sea” in Hebrew terms, in just a few hours. This body of water still exists today and is known as Realfoot Lake. 10 other lakes or seas were also formed during the seismic sequence of 1811-1812. Any village in such an area would have perfectly fit the description of “sunk in the depths of the sea” by the Book of Mormon prophets.
