Ukraine's most famous novelist spends an evening exploring his new book, Gray Bees, a dramatization of his country's raging conflict through the lens of a mild-mannered beekeeper.

A timely treatment of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the book illuminates one of the most perplexing modern conflicts with Kurkov's characteristic humor, imagination, and sensitivity.

Speakers:
Andrei Kurkov worked for a time as a journalist, did his military service as a prison guard in Odessa, then became a screenwriter and author of popular and critically acclaimed novels, including the best-seller Death and the Penguin. Kurkov has long been a respected commentator on Ukraine for media around the world, including in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the United States.

Kelly Falconer is the founder of the Asia Literary Agency, which represents award-winning Asian authors, Asia experts and writers living in the Australia-Asia region. Before founding the agency, she was a fiction and non-fiction book editor, working for book publishers in London, and literary editor of the Hong Kong-based Asia Literary Review in 2012.
