Marcus Aurelius – Meditations – Modern translation of the complete audiobook
The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius are a collection of thoughts that the emperor wrote to himself, reminders of how to behave and what to expect in life. It is unlikely that Marcus Aurelius ever intended to publish these writings and the work has no official title, so "Meditations" is one of several titles commonly given to the collection. Marcus ruled the Roman Empire from 161 to 180 AD. He wrote the 12 books of Meditations as a source for his own guidance and personal improvement. It is possible that much of the work was written at Sirmium, where he spent much time planning military campaigns from 170 to 180. Part of it was written while he was stationed at Aquincum during from a campaign in Pannonia, as internal notes tell us that the first book was written while campaigning against the Quadi on the Granova River and the second book was written at Carnuntum.
