With the emergence of extraordinary evidence suggesting that a recently discovered archaic human population, known as Denisovans, may have achieved advanced levels of behavior beyond those of our own ancestors, Andrew Collins uncovers what we know about their achievements, their distribution and their nature. impact of their legacy on our own civilization. In the 2000s, human fossil remains were discovered in Denisova Cave in the Altai Mountains of southern Siberia. DNA testing showed that the bones – two molars and a small bone – belonged to a previously unknown human population, now known as Denisovans. They are now thought to have inhabited eastern Eurasia from around 400,000 years ago until around 40,000 years ago. In their later years, the Denisovans reached an advanced level of human behavior, including the creation of sophisticated symbolic or non-functional objects, for example a bottle green chloritolite arm bracelet with a pierced hole that cannot have been achieved only with the help of high technology. -quick drill; a bone needle with an eye for thread, suggesting the making of tailored clothing, as well as finely finished and pierced ostrich eggshell beads no more than a centimeter in diameter. On top of that, horse bone fragments found inside Denisova Cave suggest that Denisovans domesticated, kept, and perhaps even rode horses long before we thought. So who exactly were the Denisovans? What do we really know about them and how are they related to Neanderthals and our own ancestors? Andrew's new book co-authored with Dr. Greg Little is published this month titled "Denisovan Origins" and is available at http://www.andrewcollins.com.
