A month after the investigation began, another young woman presented evidence. Krystal Lee Kenney said she was in a relationship with Patrick Frazee, despite her engagement to Berreth, and Frazee asked her three times to kill Berreth. When Kenney refused, he did it himself. Frazee blindfolded Berreth under the guise of playing guess the smell. He then attacked her with a baseball bat, then called Kenney to help him clean up the crime scene. Kenney travels from her home in Idaho to Colorado to clean up the bloody scene, then accompanies Frazee to her nearby ranch, where she says she held Kaylee while Frazee burned Berreth's remains and personal belongings.
Frazee is found guilty of all counts, including first-degree murder, solicitation of murder and tampering with a deceased human body. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder charge, plus 156 years for the other convictions. Krystal Lee Kenney accepted a plea deal in exchange for her testimony against Frazee. She was sentenced to three years in prison. After Frazee's conviction, Kenney was again sentenced to 18 months in prison for tampering with evidence. She is now released.
